Everything we make is meant to be used. A little care keeps it looking good for years.
Leather
- Vegetable-tanned leather darkens and softens with use and sunlight. That patina is part of the character, and no two pieces age the same way.
- Keep it dry. If it gets wet, blot it with a soft cloth and let it air-dry at room temperature. Don’t use a hair dryer or set it by a heater.
- Every so often, rub in a small amount of leather conditioner made for vegetable-tanned leather. Test it on a hidden spot first, since conditioner darkens leather.
- Avoid leaving leather in direct sun or a hot car for long periods.
Wood
- Dust with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Don’t soak wood or use harsh cleaners.
- Keep wood away from standing water and very humid spots, which can make it warp.
- Unfinished pieces can be painted or stained. Try your finish on the back or bottom first.
- Lanterns: use battery-operated or LED tea lights only. Never use a candle or open flame.
3D-printed pieces
- 3D-printed pieces are made for indoor display. The plastic softens with heat, so keep them out of hot cars, direct summer sun, and away from heaters.
- Wipe clean with a dry or damp cloth. Avoid solvents and harsh cleaners.
- Tiny layer lines are normal for 3D printing and part of how these pieces are made.
Engraving
Engraving is burned into the surface, so it won’t wear off the way printing can. On leather, conditioner darkens the engraving along with the rest of the piece.
